Learn English with Cooking
One of things that has surprised me over the last few years is how much fun learning English with cooking has been.
It started with some of the Taiwanese students who were studying English and living with us. In the Chinese culture food and cooking is very important. So important that when they are travelling they often photograph their food and send the pictures to their friends.
Katy and Kim asked for a lesson in cooking language so rather than the usual vocabulary based lesson we had a practical lesson in cooking Shepherd's Pie and then we ate the lesson. It was fun and a great way to learn lots of vocabulary and practical grammar.
I should add that I am not a great cook, I can do a very limited range of recipes, but that seems to work ok!
So the lesson plan for learning English with Cooking includes:
Discussing and choosing the food to cook
Making a shopping list
Going to the shops and buying the ingredients
Cooking together
Tidying the kitchen
Revision of the vocabulary and grammar
Eating the lesson together
The Learn English with Cooking lesson is available for students living with us and for others.
The lesson is for 3 hours.
